PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

The Presbyterian Women at FPC are not all about monthly circle meetings, luncheons, and Happy Hour. We do get together in three groups or circles and study the Bible once a month. We do get together as one big group and have lunch and a program once a month. We even get together once a month for just some fun and refreshments playing bingo (with prizes), an interesting program, or just sitting around and talking.

BUT, that’s not all we do. The participants pledge money that is used for various projects, and benevolent/mission causes. We also have fund raisers, such as the food festival and the sale of the sesquicentennial ornaments, in order to fund projects. A few years ago we took on responsibility for the church kitchen, cleaning, organizing, and purchasing items for the kitchen such as various utensils, appliances, and the wonderful heat lamp table used for suppers in the Fellowship Hall. We have even had a kitchen shower and members brought items that were needed for the kitchen.

We support various missions such as Grace Place, Rays of Sonshine, St. Vincent de Paul Community Center, Bridges of Ouachita, La War Veterans Home, Northeast LA Autism Society, Life Choices, Our House, The Wellspring Alliance for Families, and the Haiti Educational Foundation, and Northeast La Food Bank. We support these groups with donations of money and various items they use in their ministry.

Presbyterian Women work with the Diaconate in providing refreshments for all funeral receptions. We make the sandwiches and cookies in addition to decorating the tables and serving during the reception.

Our Knit and Sew Group makes dresses for girls, shorts and shirts for boys, caps for babies, all of which goes to Haiti. We take sheets, tear them into sections and roll them for bandages for Africa.

If you are a Presbyterian Woman, you are encouraged to join this group and enjoy the fun and fellowship while doing something good for others. . . or as we like to say, “doing God’s work.” Please call the church office for more information on how you can participate!
